Paving the way
A road to future proof engineering

On February 6th, 2024, the 31st symposium of ConcepT will take place at the Van der Valk Hotel of Enschede. The theme of this symposium is ‘Paving the way, a road to futureproof engineering’. At the symposium, many companies from different Civil Engineering branches will be present. They will host lectures, workshops, and more. To see the full-day program, click here.

During the symposium, there will be lectures about interesting projects related in different ways to the theme ‘Paving the Way, a Road to Futureproof Engineering’.

Lecture from Royal Haskoning DHV – by Michiel Wolbers Discover the future of Civil Engineering through the eyes of Royal HaskoningDHV!

Step in the shoes of the pioneers of the discipline! During the lecture, our colleagues fro Royal HaskoningDHV take you along a present and innovating project; the strengthening of the IJsselmeerdijk, part of the “hoogwaterbeschermingsprogramma” (HWBP) (in English: high water protection program). Smart technologies are being used to strengthen the dikes. For example, take traditional, foreshore and exterior cladding. They will share different methods, visualizations for participation processes and innovating designing solutions with you. These are also tested outside including sustainability caculations and a check to the impact on the environment.

Lecture from Dura Vermeer – by Rick Broers and Maarten Buitelaar

Have you always wondered how virtual reality can help design a huge structure? Or what 5D planning entails? Then you’ve come to the right place during the symposium at Dura Vermeer, the designing construction company in the Netherlands. We will explain to you how we deployed virtual reality and 5D planning when designing a 2GW Land Station for TenneT. The BIM manager will let you experience what you can do with this already during the presentation, so keep your phone ready!

Dura Vermeer will design and build several 2GW Landstations along the Dutch coast in the coming years. Such a building will provide the connection of energy from offshore wind to the high-voltage network. On this scale, these stations have never been built before, making it a unique project with many different international stakeholders. So, a great opportunity also to use digitalisation.

In addition, trainees will talk about how to realise your ambitions during the two-year traineeship. They will share their experiences of how you can make a great start to your career by fulfilling three different roles within several civil projects at Dura Vermeer.
