Introduction

On this page you can download supportive tools for playing the “large variant” of the University of Twente Operating Room Manager Game. This variant is played in a longer time frame in which students have to implement the planning/scheduling techniques and simulation model themselves. For this variant we use various auxiliary tools. This page contains regarding these tools, and useful downloads.

After the students gave their presentation and did their DEA analysis to benchmark all players, each player (student group of 2 students) was asked to give their top 3 ranking of players. The top 3 players consequently received 3, 2, or 1 point. After adding up all points, the winner was selected. You can download the results, and the MS Excel tool that was used to determine the winner here.

Assignment 1 (Strategic and tactical decisions)

Table 2 from Assignment 1’s documentation with the characteristics of all surgery types is also available as an MS Excel file.

Assignment 2 (Scheduling)

As mentioned in Assignment 2’s documentation we supply a Borland Delphi program in which some declarations have already been done, and a Gantt chart is included to draw surgery schedules. In addition, a list of approximately 15000 elective patients is supplied as a tab-separated file. All files can be downloaded here.

Assignment 3 (Simulation model)

The supplied files mentioned in Assignment 3’s documentation can be downloaded here.

Assignment 4 (DEA tool)

As DEA tool we use DEAFrontierTM, which is a Microsoft® Excel Add-in, which uses Excel Solver. A trial version with a maximum of 50 DMUs is available from the website. Further instructions are provided in Assignment 4’s documentation.

Selection of the winner

As in any game, at the end of this game, a winner must be selected. We do this as follows. After the students have given their presentation and have done their DEA analysis to benchmark all players, each player is asked to give a top 3 ranking of other players. The top 3 players consequently receive 3, 2, or 1 point(s). The winner is the player with the most points. You can download our results for 2006, and the MS Excel tool that was used to determine the winner here. This tool can easily be adapted for more/less players.
