Success in your studies requires a high level of English proficiency. Therefore, prospective incoming exchange students are required to prove they have sufficient command of the English language. Please find our English language requirements below.
English Language requirements
The University of Twente (UT) accepts the internationally recognized certificates listed below.
- The certificate cannot be older than two years at the moment of reviewal. Since your application will not be reviewed immediately, please ensure that your certificate remains valid for at least one month after submitting your application to Mobility Online. - An overall band score of at least 6.0 with a minimum score on each section of at least 5.5.

The University of Twente does not accept the MyBest scores of the TOEFL test. In case the language centre is closed, due to unsafe situations, and you cannot take a regular language test, you are allowed to take the TOEFL iBT (Special) Home Edition test for the September 2025 intake.
- Formerly known as; Cambridge English Advanced (CAE). - Obtained with an overall score of at least 169 and a minimum score on each section of at least 162.
The Cambridge online test is not accepted by the University of Twente.

As part of our agreement with your home university, it has been confirmed that you meet the University of Twente’s English language proficiency requirements. Therefore, you may submit an English Language Proficiency Statement, completed and signed by your home university, before the application deadline.
