Hope as a meaningful way of living in times of uncertainty
Method Stream: Literature Review
ECs: Both 14 and 23 EC thesis possible
Description:
Hope has been a topic of research for psychologists, theologians and philosophers for some time. It is relevant again in current times of uncertainty, in which people ask themselves how they should respond to climate change or the COVID-19 pandemic and are unsure what the future will look like. Currently, complex questions, such as how to deal with climate change or the COVID-19 pandemic, are being solved from a technological, political or behavioral perspective. However, in times of uncertainty these approaches are not sufficient. Hope offers another, meaningful way to help people deal with uncertainty. The literature review will help to gain a better understanding how different disciplines define hope and will provide an overview of how people can bring practices of hope into their daily life. Thereby the literature review can contribute to recommendations how to help people to deal with an uncertain future.
Who are we looking for?
A student who is interested not only looking at the topic of hope from a (positive) psychological perspective, but from an interdisciplinary perspective.
What do we offer?
If you are interested, the literature review can (but doesn’t have to) be embedded in a larger research project on hope in which we examine how to measures hope-based practices and design interventions to increase hope.
