Bachelor assignments theme 6: Well-being in social and societal contexts

Technology? I am studying psychology! A survey study into the integration of technology in the professional values of psychology students

Theme: Well-being in social and societal contexts

Type of research (qualitative empirical, quantitative empirical, mixed-method): quantitative empirical survey study

Description:

Through advances in health technology, the work role of future mental health professional is changing. The current research examines the perception of students in mental health regarding the use of technology in their future job. For example, do they think technology impairs a high-quality relationship with the patient/client or that technology decreases the autonomy in their work? Or do they mainly focus on the possible opportunities of technology in their work field? In this research you will conduct an online questionnaire among students in the mental health field to get an insight into the different professional identity profiles and the relation with technology in each of these profiles. Professional identity refers to how students define themselves in terms of their future work roles and provides an answer to the question “Who am I as a (future) professional?”. This research will help to develop a Career Compass tool for (future) mental health professionals (for a current version for technology students see the https://thecareercompass.app/cc-1). With this tool we can help students to get more insight into their professional identity, and the role of technology in it. This is beneficial as students with a clear professional identity are more committed to their studies, make career choices that are more in line with their professional identity and have higher academic well-being.
