Bachelor assignments theme 4: Mental Health in a digital age

Understanding the Relationship Between Mentalization, Mental Health, and Epistemic Trust with Experience Sampling Methods

Theme: Mental health in a digital age

Type of research (qualitative empirical, quantitative empirical, mixed-method): Quantitative empirical with Experience Sampling Method (ESM)

Description:

In this assignment, students will investigate the association between mentalization – the ability to understand the mental state of oneself and or others, mental health, and epistemic trust – the openness to the reception of social knowledge that is regarded as personally relevant and of generalizable significance (Fonagy et al., 2019). These processes will be measured with Experience Sampling Methods, where participants will be asked about these processes multiple times a day over a couple of weeks. Statistical methods will be used to understand the between- and within-person relation between mentalization and epistemic trust, and how these relate to mental health.
