Understanding the individual implementation process of eHealth technologies: Factors influencing long-term adoption

Theme: Technological interventions in increasing well-being

Type of research: Qualitative empirical

Description:

In this project, our aim is to investigate the implementation and adoption of innovative eHealth technologies that increase well-being. There is a significant gap between the promising development of these technological interventions and their actual use in everyday life. Many innovative technologies face challenges in long-term adoption, highlighting the need to understand the barriers and facilitators of sustained use. This study is aims to explore the human aspects of technology adoption, benefiting both academia and practice. It enhances our understanding of technology implementation and behaviour change, it explores the intention-behaviour gap, and offers valuable insights for healthcare professionals and technology developers.

The project involves interviewing individuals who have chosen to integrate an eHealth technology into their daily routines. Through these interviews, we seek to explore the individual implementation processes – from their initial choice to use a technology to continuous usage in daily life. The primary aim is to identify critical factors influencing the long-term use of eHealth technologies. You have the flexibility to tailor your research to a self-selected target group and eHealth technology.

The interview study allows for the exploration of motivations, decision-making processes, strategies, and perceived benefits and barriers associated with long-term technology use. The study results can give valuable insight into the complexities of individual implementation behaviour in the context of eHealth technology adoption.
