We’re proud to be part of the organising committee for the 2nd Trial and Error Award – an initiative together with the Journal of Trial and Error and Utrecht Young Academy that celebrates one of the most underappreciated forces in science: failure.
This award is all about recognising researchers who had the courage to explore the unknown, even when things didn’t go as planned. Because let’s face it – not every hypothesis holds, not every experiment works, and that’s exactly where science grows.
We're calling for nominations of research projects that didn’t quite go as expected — but where the learning was invaluable. Let’s break the stigma around failure and honor the process, not just the outcomes.

Let’s celebrate transparency, reflection, and real progress in research.
