University of Twente is part of a large and green campus area that functions as a meeting place where there are opportunities for collaboration. Experimentation plays an important role in creating and testing new technological solutions in many areas, including for example earth and infrastructure observation. The Living Innovation Lab (LILa) offers a unique semi-controlled outdoor environment on the campus of the University of Twente (enclosed between the Achterhorst and the Viermarkenweg). The aim is to promote interrelated research, innovation and education between faculties and society. The design of the LILa site currently consists of 20 experiments that focus on 4 major themes: Water and Climate, Urban living environment and infrastructure, food security and biodiversity, and earth structures and dynamics.

The LIla project will be explained in the lecture and – weather permitting – we will visit the location itself.
