Sara selected to participate in the prestigious 74th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting

Sara T. R. Velasquez, a Sustainable Polymer Chemistry (SPC) researcher at S&T, has been selected to participate in the 74th Lindau Nobel Laureate meeting. After being nominated by Prof. Dr. Frederik Wurm and the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW), she is one of only seven representatives from Dutch universities.

I felt very excited at having the chance to take part in this prestigious event. I am delighted to have been selected for such a competitive program, which reflects years of work, and incredibly grateful to Frederik for his support and encouragement.

The Lindau Nobel Laureate meeting is an annual event that brings together Nobel Prize winners and outstanding young scientists to discuss scientific breakthroughs, global challenges, and the future of research. This year’s focus will be on Chemistry, Sara’s field of expertise.

When asked what she looks forward to most, Sara shares: “I am especially looking forward to interacting with >30 Nobel Laureates, especially getting to learn more about them, how they work at such a high level and be inspired by their experience”

The meeting is also known for fostering international networks and collaborations. Reflecting on the potential impact of this opportunity, Sara says: “This experience will help me further develop my network, both with Nobel laureates and peer early career scientists, among which there might be future Nobel laureates, to shape the future of Chemistry research and hopefully develop new collaborations, particularly on improving material sustainability and circularity.”

In addition to her personal goals, Sara is proud to represent both her university and the Netherlands at such a prestigious event. “As an international scientist, originally from Honduras, I am deeply honoured to have been proposed by the KNAW to represent the Netherlands at Lindau. It is a fantastic showcase for the world-leading Chemistry research here at UT and in the Netherlands more broadly, which is only possible thanks to embracing a diverse mix of local and global scientific talents” she adds, emphasising what she hopes to contribute or represent on this international platform.

The 74th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting will take place from the 29th of June to the 4th of July in Lindau, Germany.
