Igor Siretanu et al. published an article in Faraday Discussions on hydration forces at the interface between electrolytes of variable composition and crystalline mica vs. amorphous silica

The amazing result is that the structure of the hydration layers is very similar between the two very different substrates. This resolves some puzzles based on earlier coarser measurements with the surface forces apparatus that claimed very different hydration structures. The article will be presented at the Faraday Discussion meeting on Iontronics in Edinburgh in June.
