Alkyl carbonate solvents as used in Lithium batteries offer a high energy density. At typical operating voltages they also form thin protective (SEI) layers on the solid particle surfaces. Especially for systems with a high surface-to-volume ratio these thin layers are important. Using Quartz Crystal Microbalance, changes in layer mass and elasticity are studied. This study was part of FP7 grant 608621. (InFluENCE project)
