On Friday, October 11th, 2024, Professor Thom Palstra will retire from the University of Twente after an impressive career in materials science. His fascination for this field emerged during his studies at Leiden University and continued through Shell Research, Bell Laboratories, the University of Groningen, and finally, the University of Twente.
To mark his retirement, a symposium titled "Progress and Current Challenges in Electronic Materials" will be held in the morning (10:00-14:00) in Waaier 2. The symposium will feature contributions from colleagues in the field. Among the speakers are renowned scientists such as Oana Jurchescu, Paul van Loosdrecht, and Bertram Batlogg, who will cover various topics ranging from printed electronics to magnetic twists in chiral magnets.
The symposium is intended for scientists, students, and others interested in materials science. For the full programme and more information, visit the Physics of Interfaces and Nanomaterials (PIN) website.
At 15:00, Palstra will deliver his farewell lecture, "Fascination for Materials," followed by a reception in the Waaier restaurant.
