Premium certificates awarded to Technical Medicine internship departments

As many as 18 internship departments in the Netherlands have now achieved the premium status of recognised internship departments for Technical Medicine, receiving their certificate. This distinction recognises their dedication to providing high-quality learning environments for both undergraduate and graduate students. This is an important step in the continued professionalisation and development of the programme.

A delegation from the programme has now visited all departments in the Netherlands. The departments that received the premium designation for the next two years have been visited and highlighted in recent months.

Jordy van Zandwijk-programme manager TM

As a programme, we are incredibly pleased and grateful for the unique combination of excellent learning environments these departments create for our students. This applies not only to prospects and the presence of TM trainers but also to the positive feedback from both the TM staff and the students.

Van Zandwijk continues: "We want these departments to serve as role models for other hospitals and departments, where we often still encounter challenges in the long-term clinical integration of our graduates. Ideally, the value our alumni add to a department aligns with what our students learn there. When this balance is achieved, it becomes much clearer how a technical physician can be integrated within a department or hospital. This is an important goal we aim to pursue for all 150+ departments where our students gain practical experience during their studies."

With this step, we have made significant progress in the further professionalisation of the practical experiences of TM students and in enhancing the collaboration with external supervisors from the clinical practice and the UT, who are associated with a premium department. We are looking forward to strengthening this collaboration in the coming period. This is particularly important for the final stages of the programme, during the M2 and M3 TM internships, where students gain crucial practical experience and prepare for their future roles in the clinical setting.
