TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
I aim to foster a learning environment wherein curiousty takes the center stage. My focus in teaching centered around transferring fundamental knowledge in chemistry and math to students (the list below comprises courses that I thaught since 2011). Notably, to facilitate learning, I designed a new teaching method to foster creativity in classrooms (J. Chem Educ. 2023, #13). This method is embedded as a standard first-year bachelor project in our Chemistry Science & Engineering programme, and became the foundation of the 2025 Dutch Education Award. Currently, this method is applied to foster curiosity in my lab and preparing the next-generation chemistry student for Systems Thinking at Secondary Education, #19.

July 2, 2025 The educational initiative CLEAR: Chemistry Learning for Environmental Action and Responsibility at the University of Twente has been awarded the Dutch Education Award 2025 (the highest national award for education). Check YouTube for our story. | June 10-11, 2025 Supramolecular and Systems chemistry at UT. The objective of the meeting “Supramolecular and Systems Chemistry lecture series” is to inspire and train PhD candidates and postdoctoral researchers to design and synthesize chemical architectures with novel properties and functions. |

Albert and colleagues designed a new teaching method to establish an evidenced-informed learning environment for conceptualizing new ideas. This method is also applied to foster curiosity in the CRN lab. I enjoyed guiding this unique collaboration involving an education program director, education specialist, learning assistant and four researchers! |
