I studied Medicine and Philosophy at the Radboud University Nijmegen and obtained master’s degrees in both in 1999. Thereafter, I was trained as a neurologist (registration 2007) and as an intensive care physician (registration 2008) at the University Medical Center Utrecht. Meanwhile, I obtained my PhD at the Biomedical MR Imaging and Spectroscopy Group of the Utrecht University on the subject of edema formation in cerebral ischemia (2007). Since 2008, I combine my work as a vascular neurologist in Rijnstate Hospital (Arnhem) with research at the Clinical Neurophysiology group of the University of Twente. Herewith, I continue supplementing fundamental with clinical research to further unravel the effects of ischemia and hypoxemia on neuronal connectivity and synaptic neurotransmission.
