I studied Technical Medicine at the University of Twente. After obtaining my bachelor‘s degree, I continued with the Master Track “Medical Sensing and stimulation”. During the master program, I visited India as part of a study tour on medical tourism. My graduation project, at the Clinical Neurophysiology of the UMC Utrecht, was about localization of epileptogenic brain tissue using connectivity of the EEG in the high frequency range. In November 2016 I received my master’s degree Technical Medicine, after which I started working as a PhD student at a combined project of the Neurology and Intensive Care departments of the Rijnstate hospital and Radboudumc, under supervision of a.o. dr. Jeannette Hofmeijer.
Outcome prediction of comatose patients after cardiac arrest remains a major challenge for clinicians all over the world. Recent studies by the CNPH group have shown the importance of the EEG in prediction of neurological recovery of these patients. In my project, we aim to add early MRI scans of the brain to the prediction model, to improve outcome prediction. MRI measures include Diffusion Weighted Imaging (DWI), resting state Functional MRI (fMRI) and Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI).
