Indo-Dutch project granted

A joint proposal from the Biomedical Photonic Imaging (BMPI) Group, and Indian Institute of Science has been granted. The project is on photoacoustic Imaging of finger joints in the hand as a test for rheumatoid arthritis diagnosis and therapy monitoring. The Dutch side will be responsible for the development of the instrument, and the Indian side will develop algorithms for image reconstruction. A systematic pilot study on the finger joints on patients will be conducted in the latter half of the 4 year project in collaboration between the UT and Ziekenhuisgroep Twente, Hengelo.

The proposal has been granted under the program New Medical Devices for Affordable Health. This program offers funding opportunities for bilateral research cooperation between Dutch and Indian research groups.

The program is funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India and the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO)/The Netherlands Organisation for health research and development (ZonMw).
