Medtech Business Event

Medtech Business Event

During the MedTech Business Event, which takes place on Thursday November 3, the focus is on accelerating MedTech innovations. With the right funding sources, facilities and a powerful network, innovations and startups can take the next step. In various sessions we pay attention to the financing landscape for MedTech companies in Twente, we organize an Angel Meetup and we show how spin-offs are created at the University of Twente. Do you want to cross the border with your MedTech innovation? Then join the information sessions about internationalization. Find out which path to take to comply with European or American medical regulations. How do you successfully enter the German market? And: what can we learn from the medical innovation clusters in France? Make use of the matchmaking platform on this day to expand your network and make the right connections. This is the place where corporate, startups and investors meet.

The latest news from the MedTech Twente ecosystem. This session is especially aimed at partners of the cluster and other interested parties.

09.00 – 15.30        Matchmaking sessions
New connections are the cornerstone of Med Tech Twente Week. During the MedTech Business Event, we will organise curated matches with relevant venture capital firms or funds, researchers, industry partners, clinicians, SMEs, angel investors or other experts. At the heart of these matches is the event matchmaking tool, where attendees can scout for their matches.
Schedule your 20 minute matchmaking sessions in the B2Match app (soon available).

09.30 – 10.00        Financing Landscape
What are the most used financing options for MedTech companies in Twente? Gain insight into which early phase opportunities are available and find your best fit financial solution. Bram ten Bok, Investment Manager at Oost NL, and Albert-Jan de Croes, Investment Specialist at Novel-T, will help you in this quest.

09.30 – 10.30        Angel Meetup
How to invest in MedTech? Bart Heuts, program manager Oost NL Business Angels Network, will answer this question. Investing in MedTech companies gives a lot of energy. The social impact is often significant, and the benefits are easy to understand. However, there are also disadvantages, such as a longer time to market and a higher total investment need. How do you, as an angel investor, deal with these challenges?

09.30 – 10.30        FDA or MDR, what is the preferred regulatory route?
As a medical device manufacturer, you are confronted with an important decision – whether to seek the approval of the US FDA (Food and Drug Administration) or comply with the EU MDR (Medical Device Regulation). In this session you learn more about the differences regarding classification and clinical evaluation. And what is the best route to take for your medical device?

10.00 – 10.30        How to get funded?
Q&A-session about how to fund your early stage MedTech startup. Bram ten Bok, investment manager at Oost NL, Albert-Jan de Croes, investment specialist at Novel-T and an investor are here to answer your questions!

13.00 – 14.00        How to enter the German hospital market successfully?
Selling Medical Devices to German hospitals as a Dutch company is by no means easy. But what are the main barriers to enter the German health market, and how can you overcome these barriers? What are the different ways to contact German hospitals? How do you get your medical devices reimbursed? What is the German purchasing companies’ role in the German health care market? In this session, Mr Schulten, Head of Business Unit Services of Universitätsklinikum des Saarlandes (UKS), and Mr Vollmer, Health Geographer / Health Economist at MArS, will answer these questions!

13.30 – 14.30        Deal Terms UT: how we spin-off
How do startups emerge from the University of Twente? Under what conditions and how do we involve investors in all this? Join the session about Deal Terms and get to know our new approach. Roy Kolkman, manager Knowledge and Technology Transfer at Novel-T, will be your host.

14.30 – 15.30        VC-approach
As CEO of a startup, you have to deal with many different things. Especially when everything is new, it can be wise to gather people around you with a lot of experience and the necessary knowledge. But would you opt for an informal Advisory Board or perhaps a formal Supervisory Board? In this session, our panellists share their personal experiences with the supervisory board; how do you ensure a successful collaboration and get the most out of it for your company?

14.30 – 15.30        Clustergrowth in France: information session
Sébastien Weisbuch, Executive Director of MEDICALPS, takes us into the method of this French MedTech cluster.
France is the second largest market in Europe for medicinal products and medical devices at manufacturer prices. An important role in this development are the innovation clusters specializing in medical technologies. What can we learn from the French clusters and what are the possibilities to cooperate with the members of those clusters?

16.00 – 17.00        At The Money Podcast
Thomas Mensink, driving force behind At The Money Podcast, discusses how a VC successfully invests in early stage MedTech startups.
