About us

PE·NUT breaks through the boundaries of faculties, departments, and universities by uniting PhDs and EngDs from all backgrounds. Together, we share experiences, support one another, and enhance our collective growth and professional effectiveness.

Our work is built upon foundational pillars that define everything we do: Connect, Inform, and Represent the doctoral community, and foster Equity at the University of Twente.

Connect

We foster community through a variety of social and professional events, including our popular summer barbecue, monthly drinks in Enschede, laser game nights, museum visits, workshops, and more. These gatherings create spaces for informal networking, collaboration, and friendship across disciplines.

Inform

We keep our members up to date with essential knowledge through regular lunch meetings, newsletters, and digital updates. Topics range from practical matters—like taxes, housing, and grant writing—to important university policies such as the UT Optional Model, ensuring you have the information you need to navigate your academic and professional journey.

Represent

We amplify the voice of PhDs and EngDs in key university discussions, representing your interests in meetings with the Rector, Twente Graduate School (TGS), Human Resources (HR), and beyond. We also represent the UT doctoral community at the national level through the Promovendi Netwerk Nederland (PNN), advocating for fair policies and better working conditions across the Netherlands.

Equity

We are committed to fostering an inclusive and empowering environment for female doctoral candidates at the University of Twente. Our mission is to build a supportive network and a safe space where challenges in STEM fields can be openly discussed. We aim to strengthen the visibility, voice, and career pathways of women in research—both during and beyond their time at UT. Everyone is welcome to join us in creating a more diverse and equitable academic community.

At PE·NUT, we believe a stronger community creates stronger researchers. Whether you’re looking to meet peers, stay informed, or have your voice heard—you belong here.
