LAB-ON-A-CHIP: RESEARCH ON NANOSCALE

Imagine: being able to treat every disease in a heartbeat, without having a patient trying multiple medicines and consequently experiencing side effects of these medicines. This is the goal of Mathieu Odijk’s research on a nanoscale into micro-chips for medical applications. For example, he is working on a chip that monitors migraine real time, to gather more information about its origin and progress. All to develop an effective treatment against migraine.

Mathieu Odijk studied Electrical Engineering at University of Twente and now works there as Adjunct Professor. He is a known expert in his field, Lab-on-a-Chip. In 2010,  Stichting voor de Technische Wetenschappen (Foundation for Technical Sciences, STW) nominated him one of the nine technological top talents and in 2014 he was awarded the prestigious VENI scholarship for his research into micro- and nanodevices for chemical analysis. He is still leading this research theme within the BIOS Lab-on-a-Chip group at University of Twente.
