Conditions for travel grants
We are happy to announce that we have a limited number of travel grants for early career researchers (PhD students and postdocs). We particularly encourage applications from students and postdocs based at Institutes in low and mid-income countries as listed here: https://data.worldbank.org/country/XO and from underrepresented groups in Academia. To be eligible for the grant, you must submit an abstract to one of the panels and your abstract must be accepted. The deadline for the grant applications is August the 5th 11 pm CET. The grants can include expenses up to 1500 euros (this can cover travel to and from Enschede in economy class, visa fees, if applicable, as well as accommodation in Enschede). Estimation of travel costs should be based on quotes from known websites, (e.g. for flights skyscanner, momondo, etc.). If you are coming from a European Country we strongly encourage you to travel by train when feasible within one day of travel. Grantees will also have their registration fees waived and will be asked to contribute to the dissemination and outreach of the NEEDS conference in their own unique way. To be eligible candidates need to:
- Being a PhD student or Post-Doc (max. 5 years since PhD completion, career breaks will be considered, please specify them in the form);
- Have limited access to funding;
- Have an accepted abstract to one of the conference panels;
- Provide a short letter of reference from their supervisor, confirming career position of the candidate and any eventual career breaks, and confirming the need for the financial support;
- Be willing to contribute to the conference dissemination and outreach in your own unique way (Do you like to communicate science and be connected? are you an expert vlogger? are you a street photographer? or a social media master? Are you the new Frida Kahlo? or you just like to write, sing, perform other forms of art? If yes, let us know your idea to contribute to the conference running, dissemination and outreach so that we can make the NEEDS conference as diverse, multi-disciplinary, inventive, creative as we can);
Applications will be evaluated based on the eligibility criteria and on your ideas for contributing to the dissemination and outreach at the conference.
