OoCCT & BRAINS symposium

The Organ-on-Chip Centre Twente and Centre For Brain-Inspired Nano Systems join forces! On 3 September 2024 OoCCT & BRAINS will co-organise a symposium hosting Magnus Fontes, general manager of Roche.

Speaker Magnus Fontes

"From single cells to complex systems"

During the last decades the developments in bio and digital technologies have led to a transformation of healthcare. We can now, with high throughput, at the single cell level, measure DNA and RNA and protein abundances, as well as collecting spatial information on the measured single cells. I will give examples of some of the latest biomedical insights derived from such data, with a focus on understanding the human immune system and its interactions with intrinsic or extrinsic perturbations, as well as highlight some of the connected modeling challenges that the community currently struggles with.

Short biography on Magnus Fontes:

Magnus Fontes is Adjunct Professor of Mathematics at Lund University and General Manager of Institut Roche in Paris, France. Institut Roche is Roche’s institute for collaborative and multidisciplinary biomedical research, see https://institut.roche.com/. Magnus Fontes’ research interests and publications cover fundamental mathematics as well as mathematical modeling applications, including development of mathematical modeling methods and algorithms targeting biomedical and clinical applications. His current research is directed towards modeling of pathogen-immune system interactions and systems immunology, trying to uncover new functional biological mechanisms. Magnus Fontes is a co-founder of the bioinformatics software company Qlucore.
