HOW TO ACTIVATE STUDENTS IN ONLINE EDUCATION
Activating students is important to take into account when you design and develop your instructional strategies. Activating students is already often a challenge in a face to face setting. Variation in activities is key here. But what can you do in a distance situation?
In this part we distinguish two education settings: synchronous online sessions and asynchronous sessions. For synchronous online learning sessions please see this document:
Here you can find several educational activities which require active involvement from the student perspective. However, engaging students in a synchronous online lecture can still be a challenge.
Below you can find some aspects to think of to activate your students in asynchronous sessions:
- Self study
- Projectwork
- Assignments
- Be aware of the self-regulation capacity of your student group. What can you do to increase this? Organize small sessions for students to discuss the assignment/lecture/to accelerate the learning process
