Researcher: Stefan de Vries
Project Duration: April 2016 – Septemebr 2016
Project Partner: Arcadis

Problem definition and research goal:

The water boards of Vechtstromen and Zuiderzeeland (amongst other private and public organizations) face a problem in the implementation of AM: they need advice on the required changes of their internal strategic asset management alignment (ISAMA) that should lead to more effective AM decisions at the strategical level. By analyzing the two cases and importing knowledge from the strategic management field, the study aims to reach the following objective:

Discover areas for improvement in the internal strategic alignments within asset management at the water boards Vechtstromen and Zuiderzeeland that lead to more effective strategic decisions”

This leads to the following research question:

How can the internal strategic alignments within asset management at the water boards Vechtstromen and Zuiderzeeland be improved to result in more effective strategic decisions?

Thus, for both, the strategic decisions are those decisions related to asset management and are made at the strategical level of the organization.

Sub-questions:

  1. How do organizations strive for internal strategic alignment and how should this be done in the context of asset management?
  2. What are the current states and configurations of the internal strategic asset management alignments within the water boards of Vechtstromen and Zuiderzeeland?
  3. What problems can be identified for the internal strategic asset management alignments within the water boards Vechtstromen and Zuiderzeeland?
  4. What steps should be performed within the water boards of Vechtstromen and Zuiderzeeland to improve their internal strategic asset management alignments?
