HCD Education: Intelligent Transport System Design

The application of ICT in the transport domain is called Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS).

Imagine that you are developing a system to pay per kilometer of road use (for motorized vehicles). Based on traffic data, calculations and simulations the effect of such system in terms of road occupation, traffic efficiency, ecological impact, tax revenues, etc., could be assessed. For the success of its implementation an important factor will also be the human: Will traffic participants understand, accept and appreciate such intervention? How will their individual behavior influence the overall objectives you are aiming at? Will changes in behavior cause unanticipated and maybe counterproductive effects? Is the designed ITS viable from a usability point of view?
