Designerly HRI Knowledge and RO-MAN 2020 Designing compassionate robots for mental healthcare

Geke Ludden and Benedetta Lusi participated in the first international workshop on Designerly HRI Knowledge, held in conjunction with the 29th IEEE International Conference on Robot and Human Interactive Communication (RO-MAN 2020).

It was an amazing experience that let them contribute and explore intermediate level knowledge in a context that was before linked just to engineers and scientists. It was a chance to get a highly valuable feedback from the community on the start of a new, broader project: “Designing compassionate technology for innovative mental healthcare”. For this workshop, Benedetta presented a position paper focusing on how to design a compassionate robot. The paper discussed a first analysis of what it means to design a compassionate robot, the shifts needed and the challenges still to be faced.
