Shayan Hundrieser, who will join the Statistics group at the University of Twente in May 2025 from the University of Göttingen, has been honored with the prestigious Dissertation Award by the Probability and Statistics Group of the German Mathematical Society.

The award acknowledges outstanding research by promising young scientists in the field of stochastics. His dissertation, entitled "Statistical Optimal Transport and its Entropic Regularization: Compared and Contrasted," was particularly commended by the jury for its significant contributions to the field of statistical optimal transport.

Next to the dissertation award, Shayan also received a grant to work with Prof. Johannes Schmidt-Hieber at the UT (May 2025-April 2026) and to spend a second year of postdoc in Yale.
