Assignment: horse step detection

Clip-Clop: horses step detection

Problem Statement:

“No hooves, no horse” is an old saying that underlines the importance of understanding how horses use their hooves to move. Equine gait is often described in terms of footfalls, or the order in which the hooves come in contact with the ground and then leave it. Hoof-on and hoof-off events can be detected with motion capture systems or force and pressure plates, but there is an increasing need for more accurate hoof events detection from versatile inertial sensors. This would allow gait assessment outside of the clinic and thus provide more insights about equine locomotion.

You will be responsible for the following tasks, using Python or MATLAB:

Data is already available but more data collection can be organised at the Equine Clinic of the Utrecht University if needed. This project is perfect if you love horses or other quadrupeds, and if you don’t, trust us you will!
