Incentive grant project on automated assessment of mathematics An in-depth project to decrease the workload of the mathematics teachers in AM by employing evidence-informed automated assessment in a variety of forms. Forms of automated assessment that are applicable in mathematics could be used by other courses in other programmes, making this project useful beyond the AM department.
Multivariable Calculus We are conducting a data-driven research project related to students’ cognitive engagement with double integrals, employing APOS theory as our theoretical lens. We are also engaged with an ongoing series of studies related to open-book assessment in vector calculus.
The mathematics education reading group A group of mathematics educators from Applied Mathematics, ATLAS and ELAN meets approximately once a month to discuss literature related to the teaching and learning of mathematics. The topics we cover range from practical issues such as teaching large classes, to specific topics such as mathematical modelling and theoretical frameworks such as APOS theory. If you wish to join the reading group, please contact Tracy Craig.
Transition to University Mathematics The Bridging Course project addresses the gap in mathematics knowledge among incoming university freshmen. The project offers focused support through specifically designed course content for students. Learning analytics are employed in the project to provide students with feedback on their areas of improvement in mathematics. Additionally, teachers receive a comprehensive class overview highlighting specific topics that require attention for the entire group. More information at www.utwente.nl/bridge
