DSI Meet Up: Process Mining meets Machine Learning and AI Advancing robust and trustworthy process intelligence

Process mining and artificial intelligence are increasingly coming together in the study of business processes. Machine learning techniques play an important role in process mining, for example, in prediction, anomaly detection and decision support.

However, many of these techniques rely on assumptions that do not fit well with process data. Nonparametric distributions, temporal dependencies and concurrency often characterise this data.

In this session, we will look at how data encoding and an understanding of process structures can help to address this issue. We will also discuss practical approaches for applying machine learning in process mining in a reliable and accurate way.

Interactive Brainstorm Session

We’ll also open the floor for participants to:

  • Share challenges from their own domains
  • Discuss practical applications for AI/ML in process mining
  • Reflect on the broader impact of trustworthy process intelligence

When: 15 October at 15:00
Where: Ravelijn 4231

Paolo Ceravolo
Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Milan.

Paolo Ceravolo is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Milan. His research focuses on data representation and integration, process monitoring, process mining, empirical software engineering and machine learning. He has authored over 400 publications in international peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings. Since 2014, he has served as chair, and subsequently vice-chair, of the IFIP 2.6 Working Group on Databases, and he actively contributes to several international conference programme committees. As a data scientist, he has been involved in numerous internationally funded research projects and innovative start-ups, applying advanced analytics to address challenges in finance, healthcare, and human rights.
