Richard van Leeuwen

Richard received a cum laude bachelor degree in mechanical engineering from the Rotterdam University of applied science and a master degree in automotive engineering from the Eindhoven University of Technology. After his study he was several years active as entrepreneur in the field of renewable energy and worked as design engineer for Grasso cooling systems. Before joining Saxion he worked for seven years at Nedtrain consulting and Lloyd’s Register Rail Europe as senior consultant and project manager on railway rolling stock safety and reliability projects. From 2006 Richard works for Saxion as lecturer and project manager in the field of renewable energy. He is responsible for acquisition and management of projects regarding bio-energy, renewable energy in the building environment and technical innovations. He has (co)authored numerous reports and articles on the results of research for partners. On the educational side he is an active project tutor for his students, has developed several new courses for the mechanical engineering department and has co-founded the study route and minor “Engineering of Energy Systems” which now runs its second year with a growing number of students and participating companies. Recentely he joined the Computer Architecture & Embedded Systems (CAES) group of the university of Twente to start a PhD-research on controlling a smart grid for district heating and electricity supply.
