Gridflex Heeten: Energy management and smart control design

Master's assignment

Student: Yifan Shi
Supervisor: Victor Reijnders
Programme: Sustainable Energy Technology - University of Twente
Finished: October 2019

With Gridflex Heeten, the consortium partners want to develop an inventive business case for the local energy market, or in other words, to create a reproducible market model which will benefit the environment and society. According to the original wish, the project goal is: to achieve the optimal matching of energy demand and supply with the help of local, sustainable generation and local storage.

Achieving the goal means:

  1. Local energy is traded locally to keep the revenues in the region and to influence the energy price.
  2. Providing consumers with insight into their consumption so that they can take savings measures themselves.
  3. Creating energy management systems containing control algorithms, such as “peak shaving” users’ PV panels and battery system.

Tasks:

  1. Literature research for battery type.
  2. Research on energy trading market.
  3. Research on electricity balancing market.
  4. Control algorithm design for the local market.
  5. Simulation test. (integrating into DEMkit)
