Bachelor Panel Applied Mathematics

The Education Evaluation committee Applied Mathematics at the faculty of EEMCS exist to oversee the quality of the Bachelor programme. In these meetings, the individual modules of b-AM are evaluated with students and staff.

Meeting organisation

Once a module, an evaluation meeting with a selected group of students and staff is organised for each year of the Bachelor program. The issues adressed include a follow-up on whether issues raised in previous years are resolved. Furthermore, students can give feedback regarding the organisation, lectures, tutorials, difficulty and exams. They are given a chance to address the positive points of a module, so that the good elements can be maintained. However, if there are any new problems/issues these can also be discussed.

At the end of each meeting, the module coordinator joins the evaluation. In this way students can share their experiences and the module coordinator can react to the points raised by students. We make sure there is a good dialogue between students and staff as it really makes an impact on future education.

The evaluation meetings are usually organised in the lunch break. There is one meeting at the beginning of each module, during which the previous module is addressed in full detail and the ongoing module is addressed briefly.

For the first-year students, this group is organised at the beginning of each academic year and then this group also is asked to evaluate in their second and third year as well. If it happens that a student does not follow a specific module, a replacement is sought.

Follow-up

During the evaluations, all raised points by students, as well as the explanations and questions from the module coordinator, are put in writing. A report of the module evaluation is sent to the module coordinator and Centre for Educational Support (CES). This way, the module coordinator has all points that were raised by students in writing and can address them, if needed.

Contact

The evaluations are always organised by two Applied Mathematics students. Usually, one of them is a first-year master student and the other a third-year bachelor student. Currently, these are Anouk Beursgens (a.e.beursgens@utwente.nl) and Marieke Snoeren (m.s.snoeren@utwente.nl).
