Title: "A port-Hamiltonian approach to coupled cable-field problems"
Abstract:
In modern electronics, such as those found in automobiles, cables are often packed closely together, leading to electromagnetic interference (EMI) that can cause system malfunctions. This talk presents a port-Hamiltonian model that captures these interferences without resorting to discretization of the components, thereby preserving the full range of dynamic behaviors. Specifically, we will use the 1-D telegrapher's equations to model the individual cables and 3-D Maxwell's equations to describe the surrounding electromagnetic field. Hence, every single component of our model fits into the framework of port-Hamiltonian systems. However, the difficulty that arises in the coupling is the mismatch of dimensions. The goal is to provide a framework that facilitates a priori analysis, enabling the prediction and understanding of system behavior before detailed simulations.
