3MS

Welcome to 3MS

Mathematics of Multiscale Modeling and Simulation (3MS) focuses on the mathematical development and application of computational multiscale methods. Often, this starts from a system of (partial) differential equations for which accurate and efficient numerical and modeling approaches are required. We focus on structure-preserving numerical methods uniquely linked to the underlying continuum models – these yields methods that provide equally unique benefits in studying complex dynamics.

We collaborate across disciplines to actively connect modern mathematics developments with various applications that have direct societal relevance, with examples ranging from health to energy, materials, and climate. Mathematical models that capture evolution of complex processes and models that provide insight in new materials are at the heart of our connection to applications. 3MS is embedded in MESA+, TechMed and the Energy Innovation Platform at UT. Within the Netherlands we are represented in the J.M. Burgers Center and the Center for Computational Energy Research (CCER), and internationally we are active in ERCOFTAC, BiMOS and STUOD.
