AI Day 2026

AI-DAY
Save the date 30 Juni 2026

Spark new connections
Tuesday 30 June 2026 | University of Twente

Artificial intelligence is becoming increasingly relevant for organisations that want to improve processes, make better use of data and explore new opportunities. From healthcare and energy to manufacturing and public services, organisations are asking how AI can support decisions, optimise operations and create new insights. At the same time, many organisations face similar questions. Where do you start? What is technically possible? And how can research help address real challenges in practice?

AI Day 2026 brings together companies, public organisations and researchers to explore these questions together. The event showcases how collaboration between the University of Twente and external partners can turn ideas and challenges into concrete AI applications. The goal of the day is simple: spark new connections and make it easier to start collaborations around AI.

Preregistration

Registration for AI Day 2026 is not open yet. You can already preregister to stay informed about the programme, speakers and registration opening. Preregistering does not guarantee a place, but gives priority access once registration opens.

What is the AI Day?

AI Day is a full day event with talks, discussions and interactive sessions that highlight collaborations between researchers and external partners. Each session presents a concrete case in which a researcher and an organisation worked together on an AI challenge. These examples show how collaboration can start, what the process looks like and what it can deliver in practice.

Alongside the sessions there will be opportunities to meet researchers, explore ongoing projects and exchange ideas with other organisations. The day is designed to inspire visitors and help them take a first step towards collaboration.

AI in practice

Across many sectors, organisations are exploring how artificial intelligence can support decision making, improve efficiency and create new insights. During AI Day several domains will be highlighted where research and practice meet.

Health

In healthcare, AI can support professionals in both administrative and clinical tasks. Systems can help analyse large collections of medical records, research papers and clinical guidelines so that doctors can quickly find relevant information.

AI is also increasingly used in applications such as medical image analysis, decision support and predicting disease progression. Predictive models can help identify patients at risk of complications or hospital readmission.

Because healthcare decisions have major consequences, reliability and transparency are essential. Research at the University of Twente therefore focuses on responsible AI that is explainable, robust and validated together with hospitals and healthcare professionals.

Energy

AI can help make energy systems more efficient and reliable. Data from electricity networks can be analysed to match energy supply and demand better. For example, AI can help optimise charging times of electric vehicles or coordinate the use of heat pumps and batteries when the electricity grid is less heavily loaded.

AI models can also detect patterns in network data and help predict congestion in local grids. This allows grid operators to plan investments more effectively and use existing infrastructure more efficiently.

Manufacturing

In manufacturing, AI offers opportunities to make production processes smarter and more flexible. One example is predictive maintenance. By analysing sensor data from machines, AI can detect early signs of wear and predict failures before they occur. This reduces unexpected downtime and lowers maintenance costs.

AI can also support real time process optimisation, improve product design and help optimise production planning and supply chains. Integrating data driven decision making into production environments can make companies more efficient and adaptable in a rapidly changing market.
