Security tools

The University uses different tools to enhance the security of the network, our services and you as an employee, student or guest. Some of those tools you will never experience. Some you will notice in your every day use of our IT services.

  • Immunity

The University uses the Immunity applicatoin from Tesorion to protect our network and the devices on it. Immunity is an Intrusion Detection System (IDS) and als an Intrusion Prevention System (IPS).

An IDS monitors the network for signs of attacks, either criminals trying to breach our systems or systems that are infected with malware. Immunity does this by employing systems that attract attackers and examine their behavior. It also monitors other signs of intrusions.

When Immunity detects a threat the IPS part kicks in. It blocks, or more precisely quarantines, an affected system. It does this by redirecting all traffic from the affected system to a website where it informs the user of the system of its quarantine. The user can still perform actions to mitigate the problem, like updating his computer or downloading and installing a virus scanner, but their system can not influence other system anymore.

If you are using your computer and are not able to access your usual websites, but get redirected to Immunity, read the information and act accordingly.
