VIDI training

In this course, we will discuss the procedures and evaluation criteria of the VIDI Talent Scheme. We will work on the development and critical assessment of the innovativeness and feasibility of your VIDI project idea. The focus elements in a CV will be discussed as well as writing tips for a solid VIDI-grant proposal.


Increasing your chances of acquiring a VIDI grant by:
Learning about the procedures, success rate, and the evaluation criteria for the NWO VIDI grant

Understanding when a research challenge is fit for a Vidi proposal

Presenting your CV specifically for the VIDI grant.

Understand how a proposal needs to be written in line with evaluation criteria.


This training is given by The Grants Office and by external consultants of Yellow Research. The training is organized and paid centrally. Next to this training other support is provided by the UT Grants Office and each faculty. By registering for this course you will enter the UT support programme of the Vidi. This programme focuses on proposal feedback and review, expert referees, rebuttal, and interview preparation

Presenting your CV specifically for the VIDI grant.
Writing a sound VIDI proposal that can be submitted to NWO.


This training is given by external consultants and is organized and paid centrally. In addition, the UT Grants Office and each faculty provide support for VIDI candidates. Please reach out to to inform and register for our support program as soon as possible. This program focuses on proposal feedback and review, expert referees, rebuttal and interview preparation.

  • Programme is for

    Researchers (min. 3 years and max. 8 years after promotion upon submission deadline, which is the first week of October 2021; do consider extension may apply) with a good CV and an innovative research idea who consider applying for an NWO-VIDI grant in 2021 round.

  • Date

    There will be four sessions for this support programme. Each on a different topic in the Vidi application. Due to the COVID-19 measures, all four sessions will be held digitally. In between, there will be home-assignment to prepare for each session.

    Session 1 ’Vidi, rules, procedures and regulations’: 23 March, 10:00-12:00
    Session 2 ‘Develop the best Vidi research topic’: 22 April, 10:00-12:00
    Session 3: ‘Your narrative CV’ 27 May, 10:00-12:00
    Session 4: ‘Setting up your proposal and knowledge utilisation sections’ 27 May, 13:00-15:00 

    To participate in the sessions, it is still required to subscribe through the CTD (below on the page) and to submit your CV to the Grants Office ( Make sure that on this CV your official Ph.D. date is stated.  

  • Course fee

    This training will be paid from central funds. However, you do need permission from your head of department. Please inform the head of the department of the ambitions Vidi plans, if not yet discussed.

    Course materials will be provided before and during the first training day.

  • Requirements

    The attending researcher is eligible to apply for an NWO-VIDI grant. 
    At registration, you will receive an individual meeting request to go over your plans on a Vidi this year. You are asked to join this meeting. Depending on your experience in the Dutch system, you will be invited to the first session and a plan for future support and timelines will be discussed.
