SCOPE & AIMS
This course focuses on Information Design, a discipline that deals with the visual presentation of information. During the course, you work on a 'Reference Work' (that you have already created) of your choice with the aim of improving its effectiveness in terms of visual communication. Below you will find the intended learning outcomes:
- Basic knowledge on design disciplines such as layout, colour theory and typography
- Basic knowledge on how design decisions affect people's perception
- The ability to pitch and discuss the effectiveness of a work in terms of Information Design
- The ability to apply basic Information Design skills directly to your own (research) output
Preparation
Having a 'Reference Work' of your choice within one of the catagories listed below to work with is required to participate. This work needs to be uploaded to the dedicated Canvas environment before the first session. If you are not sure if your selected work qualifies, you can reach out to the course organizer.
- A graphical abstract for a paper you plan to submit or which is currently under review
- An infographic for a research proposal you plan to submit
- A poster design for a poster you plan to submit and present at a conference
- A slide deck for a presentation (max 10 example slides) you plan to use
