RESULT
Provide participants with the opportunity to raise their overall English proficiency to near-native level. Participants learn to understand with ease virtually everything they hear and read, make accurate and complete notes during a presentation, understand colloquial asides, talk about complex and sensitive issues without awkwardness and express themselves precisely and fluently.
CONTENT
- Intensive training in all language skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking;
- interactive classes;
- particular focus on vocabulary, idioms and structure (English in Use);
- extensive use of authentic materials;
- exam preparation.
The course consists of 20 two-and-a-half-hour classes, providing ample opportunity for discussion, pair work and group work. In addition, participants are expected to spend a considerable amount of time on self-study assignments. See http://www.cambridgeenglish.org/ for more information.
DURATION AND TIME INVESTMENT
Attendance at every lesson is essential. The course is held over 20 weeks, excluding a summer holiday break in July and August. Homework is expected to take approximately four hours each week.
Admission Criteria
Participants are required to complete an Oxford Online Placement Test (OOPT) before being accepted for enrolment in a Cambridge course. English language proficiency at level CEF C1 (Common European Framework) is required.

For staff and PhDs whose current level of English is level CEF C1 and who wish to improve their level to CEF C2. The CPE-examination is optional and at the participant's own cost. Registration for the exam can be arranged individually through the British Council.
