English Pronunciation Follow-up workshops for Chinese & South-East Asian PhD's, PDEngs and Staff

COURSE CONTENT AND GOALS

Have you followed at least three online 1:1 pronunciation coaching sessions with our English Pronunciation Coach, Marieke van der Meer? And do you feel you would like to extend your pronunciation skills by learning on campus interactively, offline and in a small group? Then the English Pronunciation Follow-up Workshops (EPFUW) could be ideal for you. This series of 2 workshops will enable you to put what you have learned into practice by means of hands-on tools and (total body) techniques. The small group of students will make you feel comfortable and will allow you to get direct feedback on your skills, not only from your teacher, whom you are already familiar with, but also from your peers.

  • During the workshops we will target speaking more clearly and confidently. Therefore we will focus on
  • Refining your speaking strategies (speak up, speak slowly & speak in chunks)
  • Reactivating your articulatory settings (lips, tongue, jaw & voice) including mouth yoga
  • Refreshing your skill of accurately pronouncing the English vowels & consonants
  • Brushing up your skill of producing
    - accurate word stress
    - natural intonation across chunks
  •  Aiming for connected speech to enhance your  intelligibility

The workshops will also cater for individual needs, such as speaking more fluently when

  • Attending meetings
  • Giving a presentation
  • Doing your qualifier
  • Defending your thesis

If you want to have fun learning interactively and feel you could profit from the group dynamics then please register for EPFUW. By actively participating in these workshops you can take your English pronunciation skills to the next level

COURSE PREPARATION

To get the most out of these workshops, in advance you will complete a flowchart self-assessing your English pronunciation skills and indicating your specific workshop targets.

COURSE COMMITMENT AND TIME INVESTMENT
