a.     The purpose of the evaluation relevant to the teaching situation.

b.     The evaluation approach (methods, sources and meaningful evaluation questions /criteria) and justification for the choices made within the context.

c.     Evaluation results from students and from other sources (e.g. assessment results, colleagues).

2.     Analyse evaluation results, draw conclusions and pinpoint areas for improvement, while keeping in mind and/or including:

a.     Conclusions about the quality of the course's educational design, teaching and assessment.

b.     Concrete recommendations and intended actions to improve the course’s educational design, teaching and assessment

History has taught us that sometimes there is some confusion with regards to the term 'evaluation'. Apparently some understand evaluation as assessment. Please bear in mind that in UTQ competence 4 and during this course the concept of evaluation is NOT intended as assessing student's learning but as reflecting on teaching by means of various methods in order to bring about improvements of that education.

Evaluation of education is important, so that you can recognize if your teaching is useful and what may need to be improved in the future. There are many ways teaching can be evaluated including guidance from colleagues and feedback from students. It is all about looking back to see how things went, and how you can improve in the future. Not only students are learning and improving, but teachers are learning and improving as well. In this course we offer you tools with which to evaluate your education in an effective way and insights how to analyse the evaluation results.

In Course 4 you work on an evaluation plan and design instruments you will use for the course you are teaching. This is mostly done by self study, with the workshop and an optional Q&A session to provide you with input and guidance along the way. You will conduct the evaluation and present your methods, the results and your analysis and conclusions to finalise Course 4.

The University Teaching Qualification (UTQ) is a compulsory teaching qualification for lecturers, assistant, associate and full professors. PhD students cannot enrol directly on a UTQ course. PhD students will only be accepted for the UTQ in exceptional cases where the PhD student already has considerable teaching experience. If this is the case, please contact the UTQ supervisor of your faculty: https://www.utwente.nl/en/ces/celt/who-we-are/

In order to be eligible for the certificate you need to participate in the workshop and presentation session. For more information you can contact celt-ces@utwente.nl.
