RESULT
In the end of the masterclass you have a blueprint of a blended course design.
You are able to:
- Distinguish the different learning activities students can do to improve their learning and translate this to your own education
- Translate your vision, learning objectives into ‘new’ learning activities for students (innovative /technology enhanced)
- Create a balanced flow of different learning activities resulting in a qualitative blended course design
CONTENT
There are a lot of models for (blended) educational design. All with the same aim; to develop well-thought out blended education. This masterclass of ‘blended learning design’ is a hands-on workshop focusing on creating a blue print of your renewed blended course with and without educational learning technology in 90 minutes!
In this workshop the ABC learning design method will be used. This method is developed by Clive Young and Nataša Perović from University College London, which is based on the ‘conversational framework theory’ of professor Diana Laurillard. The theory integrates diverse learning theories, from which arise six learning type activities students can do in education: Acquisition, Inquiry, Production, Discussion, Practice and Collaboration. These diverse student learning activities will be used to create your blueprint: A visual storyboard on a large placemat, in which you use learning type cards to create the ‘flow’, and to determine student learning activities.
The programme consists of three parts.
1) Preparation
2) The workshop
3) An Edu Tooling Information Market
The preparation will take you approximately one hour. The workshop itself will start at 9:00 and end at 12:30, in which you work for 90 minutes extensively on the blueprint of your course. After the workshop a ‘Blended Learning Market’ is organised, where you can orient on digital and non-digital toolings for your blended course. Or maybe you can already decide what is useful for your design and what your next step will be.
For the workshop it would be great if you are with colleagues of the same course. The deep level of discussion you can have, the creation of agreement and the fun and energy you will experience together. However, also as an individual it can be very valuable to get critical questions and feedback from other teachers that will help you in your story boarding process. The trainer(s) are there to help in this process and have materials available to foster the discussion.
