Course fee

This training will be paid from central funds. However, you do need permission from your head of department. 

Group size

Minimum 6 and maximum 12 participants


Cees Harmsen. He is a psychologist, trainer and author specialised in strategies for creating a successful professional career.

Course materials

Course materials will be provided during the training.


For all PhD candidates at the University of Twente.


You have developed insights and skills that you can use in your further career. You are able to proactively realise your personal objectives as a professional.


Block I: Personal leadership
-Self-management and managing your own time
-Personal qualities
-Professional working
Working process: Brief theoretical introductions, alternated with many practical exercises.

Block II:  Professional Communication
-Essential communicative techniques
-Skills in common discussion models
-Social-relational subjects
Working process: Interactive presentations and discussions in small groups. You receive a workbook and formulate an action plan for the coming year.

Block III:  Presenting and profiling
-Own style of presentation
-Plan and prepare
-Practice and perform
Working process: Presenting is doing. Therefore each participant will hold a presentation of approximately fifteen minutes about a professional subject.


6 days (3 x 2 days)
The study load for this course is roughly equivalent to 2 ECTS.
