Our PhD/EngD counsellors are trained professionals with expertise in coaching, counselling, and providing confidential guidance.
This service is available to all PhD and EngD candidates at the University of Twente (UT), including external PhDs and scholarship recipients. All appointments are completely free of charge.
Our counsellors can assist you with a wide range of topics, including:
- Boosting productivity
- Issues with finding and maintaining motivation
- Addressing cultural differences
- Balancing personal life with workload demands
- Enhancing self-confidence
- Advising on workplace communication and relationships, including interactions with your supervisor
Talking through a challenging situation with a neutral, outside perspective can bring valuable insight. Our counsellors provide personalized, accessible support to help you stay on track and move forward in a positive direction. Anything discussed remains strictly between you and your counsellor.
Our services are independent of your faculty, the Twente Graduate School (TGS), or the HR department. We do not replace the existing support resources at UT but collaborate with other services such as TGS, HR, HR Development, Occupational Health Services, Confidential Advisors, the Ombuds Officer, and General Practitioners. If necessary, we can refer you to these resources for specialised assistance. Additionally, we partner with the PhD/EngD Network of the University of Twente (P-NUT).
For more information about the support structure, please refer to the doctoral candidates' guide on ethical and integrity matters here and the support structure guide for employees here.
