Studying ON CAMPUS, ONLINE, OR IN A HYBRID SITUATION

SACC have collated and developed resources to help you cope with university study, including advice on: how to stay focused on your work, deal with procrastination and consider your digital wellbeing. You can find them in the Canvas course Student Wellbeing.

This page is about supporting other aspects of studying whilst working from home or studying in a hybrid situation.

DEVELOP LEARNING STRATEGIES

Usually, the primary focus of going to university is to learn about a certain topic or field, in order to gain the knowledge and experience necessary for advancing one of the following: our understanding of the world, our career, or the field itself.

A secondary focus is learning how to learn, both in general and within our own discipline. This involves experimenting, discussing things with peers, supervision from academic and support staff, and self-reflection. There are central and faculty-based skills teams to help support this development, but it is often a personal journey.

When the method of teaching and learning undergoes a change, the issue of how we learn becomes a primary focus: for example when everything went online in March 2020, or now as we return to campus. Changing the method of engaging with courses, staff and students can be a difficult experience, but there are resources out there to help us engage fully with our studies: on campus, online, or in a hybrid situation.

LEARNING FROM EACH OTHER

As we adapt to university study, we develop strategies for doing so effectively, whether intentionally or not. Everyone develops different strategies, so why not pool our resources and share tips?
The UTLC Skills Lab has set up an online Padlet discussion wall for you to ask questions and share tips with each other about the following aspects of studying online:

ATTENDING SKILLS WORKSHOPS

Our programme includes online and on-campus workshops to help you develop academic skills such as writing, presenting, pitching, focus and speed reading. We also offer workshops on soft skills useful in and outside of your studies: influencing skills, intercultural competences, business modelling to name a few.
