RESULT

After this training you have learned enough basic Mandarin Chinese to order in a restaurant, to ask directions and have a friendly conversation with acquaintances. Afterwards there is a possibility to register for the HSK exams, organised by the Confucius Institute in Groningen and Leiden. The HSK exam is an international test that measures the level of knowledge of the Chinese language.

CONTENT

The practicing of skills is embedded in relevant everyday situations and events with focus on issues like housing, study, travel and work in China.

The extension of communicative competences is the central learning objective of this course. Learning from and with each other is essential. Pair and group work therefore play a central role. Each lesson includes a variety of practical learning activities.

DURATION AND TIME INVESTMENT

This training is set up as a course of twelve lessons given by a professional language teacher. Attendance at every lesson is essential. The course consists of 24 hours, with one session per week, each session lasting two hours. Homework is expected to take approximately two hours per lesson.

    This course is intended for people with no previous knowledge of Mandarin Chinese, who for example are intending to spend time in China, or who are working with or teaching Chinese people. This course facilitates your relations with Chinese people, prepare your stay in China or is just for fun and because it’s interesting.

    UT-employees: €300
    Faculty departments pay an annual fee, so you do not pay yourself. You need permission from your head of department, and a project number.

    Partners of UT-employees: €300
    Non-UT participants: €390
    Partners and non-UT-participants can use internet payment to pay the course fee.
