Introduction The Teaching Times Issue 2, 2024

Dear reader, welcome to the second issue of the Teaching Times!

We launched this newsletter to foster discussion among the UT Teaching Community about topics of relevance to our education. We chose Generative AI (abbreviated to GenAI or AI in this newsletter) as a topic for this second issue not just for its relevance but also because we put closing the theory-practice gap in the implementation of AI in education high on our agenda.

As Educational Advisors, we are aware of teachers’ concerns about AI. While information about new tools, reshaping assessment methods, challenges and opportunities is constantly flowing, teachers may feel left to their own devices when it comes to the “how-to” questions.

This edition testifies to our commitment to bridging abstract discussions around AI with our educational practice. We recently formed an AI in education project team within CELT to find out what type of support we can deliver to help UT teachers successfully implement AI in their educational practice.

By the way, in June it’ll also be national AI in education month. Organised by SURF and its knowledge partners, their program overview, which is a collection of different initiatives taking place in the Netherlands throughout June, you will find numerous interesting activities taking for which you can register.

We hope that this issue will be of help with some of your questions – otherwise, you could try asking Microsoft Copilot 😉 Or feel free to contact us!
