Workshops & events on request

Events & workshops on request

As Teaching Academy we can offer a wide range of events and workshops on request. It can range from inspiring lunch meetings to half-day workshops in which participants, guided by experts, actively apply new insights to their own teaching practice. We can also contribute to (part of) a study day or team day for teaching staff.

Below you will find an overview of workshops currently available. Do you have specific ideas, questions, or needs that are not listed? We are happy to think along with you. Together, we can design and organise a workshop that is fully tailored to your context and objectives.

To explore the possibilities, please contact us at teachingacademy-bms@utwente.nl or send an email directly to the workshop trainer; for contact details, see further below.
Please note: To ensure availability, alignment with your needs, and sufficient time for any preparatory activities for the participants (especially for hands-on sessions), we kindly ask you to contact us at least 2–3 months in advance.

MC questions for higher order thinking

Multiple-choice exams are increasingly used as an efficient assessment method. While they are not suitable for every learning objective, well-designed MC questions can assess higher-order cognitive (HOT) skills more effectively than is often assumed. In this workshop, you will learn practical tips and strategies for constructing high-quality MC questions that go beyond recall.
The workshop can be offered as a short inspirational session (for example, during a lunch meeting, approx. one hour) or as a longer, hands-on session in which participants explore how HOT MC questions can be applied within their own course.

Ideas for effective and efficient feedback

Assessing student work can be time-consuming—especially with large groups, tight deadlines, and limited support. How can you reduce assessment workload without compromising fairness or quality? And how can feedback remain meaningful while still being manageable?
In this workshop, we share practical strategies to work more efficiently, meet key quality criteria for assessment (validity, reliability, and transparency), and use feedback in ways that support student learning without adding unnecessary pressure.

The workshop can be offered as a short inspirational session (for example, during a lunch meeting of approx. one hour) or as a longer, hands-on session in which participants explore workload-reducing solutions for their own course or module.
